I was a tea drinker at the office. My routine was: grab a tea bag, put it in my shirt pocket, grab my mug, and walk to the company’s break area. There I would pull out the tea bag, flip it into my travel mug in one unconscious motion, and then fill the mug at the hot water dispenser. One morning, I went through my usual process. When I got back to my office, I noticed that the flavor of the tea was different. I couldn’t taste the usual mint green tea, but instead noticed an off flavor which I couldn’t pinpoint. I took off the lid to my mug and checked inside, where I saw some brown paper floating in the tea water. As I pulled it out, it dawned on me. Before leaving for work that morning, I had used a brown paper napkin to wipe a spot of bird dirt off my windshield, and had considerately folded and placed it in my shirt pocket for disposal when I got to work. That folded napkin became my morning tea bag.
