​​​​​​Because humor is funnier when you know it's true.

Years ago, my family rented an apartment upstairs over our landlords – my aunt and uncle. When we left the apartment to move into our new home, my parents took our refrigerator with us since they had originally purchased it. The new tenant who took our place was a middle-aged, single woman. She needed to buy her own frig and didn’t have a lot of money, and so she decided to buy a used appliance. She found one within her budget, and with the help of my uncle, moved it upstairs to the apartment. Once it was in position, she plugged it in. The motor turned on, and with it, they watched in horror as dozens of live cockroaches scurried across the kitchen floor! Apparently, wherever that refrigerator had been stored, it became home to a nest of roaches. They eventually spread to my aunt’s and uncle’s downstairs home, and I’m not sure if they ever were fully eliminated. Always felt a little guilty that we had to take our frig with us.
