The flight (continued)

Well, there goes my beloved personal space for the next several hours.  There's something about having a stranger's fat, sweaty body parts pressing up against me for the whole flight that I find so unpleasant and totally annoying.  So, I try to focus on my book and the few measly peanuts and soda I will be served.  I depart this misery as I have done so many times before, and believe that that this will be my final flight forever.

When I married my husband and we were to take our flight to Hawaii, all I could think about was two changes of flights, all the hustle and bustle, loss of personal space and just plain being in a quandary for 10 hours of flying.  BUT...my husband surprised me.  We were going "first class".

My earthly human state, the earth with all its inhabitants and things upon, it was made into a heavenly existence for me.

Flying first class means you are called on first to board the aircraft in the peace and calmness of no lines.  You have a smiling flight attendant waiting to greet you and take your carryon luggage to put it in the large bins for you.  She showed us to our very large reclining seats with blankets and pillows for our comfort...And immediately offered us an adult beverage.  As you recline back in the peacefulness of imbibing and consuming the pleasure of a lemon martini, the sounds of people in coach are shoving their way onto the aircraft.  Of course, then the curtain is pulled closed to separate "us" from "them”.    I liked being "us”.

All I had to do was sit back and relax.  The menu was fresh salad, herbed chicken and a delightful dessert.  There were warm washcloths to begin and end our meal, the linen napkins and lovely silverware made us feel like we were in an expensive restaurant.  Bathrooms were for only first class and never did I have to wait in line.

This experience of flying first class changed my whole vision of flying.   We were waited on for everything we could possibly need including all the booze that we wanted.  Snacks were endless.

How could I have spent so many years of my life not knowing about this world of flying?  Since then we have flown mostly first class and have been smart enough to get those TSA precheck for a small cost.  I don't even have to take off my shoes anymore.  I can't imagine flying any other way.
